Need help with creating website OR doing the creating for us

Hello, I want to make this short so I'll only cover the basics. I am part of a business team for a video game called League of Legends, this doesn't mean much to you but I figured the public would like to know.

I am looking to have a website made or help with making a website that will be receiving a good amount of traffic. I am new to this sort of stuff and I would like to get it right the first time. I can't offer much besides advertising your name and putting something into your portfolio for now. If business is to run smoothly, there will be more websites that will need to be created. There will also be upgrades to the main site once we get going, that potentially could make you some money.

We need a very basic website that will pretty much be something for us to sort out customers, view schedules, have paypal, and organize everything in a clean looking website.

If interested, I would prefer if you private messaged me and I can go further into details. I know there is not much incentive to create this website, but there is not much I can do as of now.

I WANT TO MAKE IT VERY CLEAR THAT NO MONEY/PRIZE/ANYTHING OF VALUE IS BEING OFFERED AS OF RIGHT NOW, I WILL FURTHER DISCUSS DETAILS WITH PEOPLE WHOM I TALK TO PERSONALLY.

[Hiring] (Online) Designers wanted for.

I am a web developer who write code, I am not a designer and I prefer to outsource all of the design aspects to someone who knows what s/hes doing.

So therefore I am looking for 1-5 people that I can have available on skype and send them a spec at random and them to give me a quote and a timeframe back, your designs will then be built by me and that will be the end of your involvement in the projects.

You need to be a reliable web designer with at least 2-3 years of experience.

Designers who specialize in any of these fields are preferred: * UI/UX design * Corporate design * Landing pages * WebApp design

You will be paid per project or hourly depending on circumstances and will be receiving specs and assets primarily from me, I'll send you work when I need you and I expect a turnaround time of maximum 14 days depending on complexity.

You need to deliver your work in a neatly organized PSD. Photoshop knowledge is a must and you MUST understand English perfectly.

US or EU designers preferred.

PM or skype me(helge.sverre) with a link to your portfolio and some contact info.

(oops I messed up the title of this post, sorry)

User submitted video contest

I've done the search on here before I post and the closest result was a 3 year old post. So hoping to get some advice that may be a bit more relevant.

I have a wordpress site and would like to run a contest where users can submit Videos (youtube links). Submissions could then be shared and voted on by other users.

Free is always good, if it does the job and is not a security risk, but I'm open to paying for something as well.

Any advice out there? Or point to a recent discussion that already has lots of great tips?

many thanks

Skill Sets for large organization

I have worked in start-ups for my entire career till now (7 years). I have primarily on core java (java 6), and not on EE or frameworks like Spring/struts etc. Most of the stuff I worked on was built in-house, and external library usage was limited to Guava, Apache Commons, mybatis etc. There wasn't even proper version control setup.

I am shifting to a large organization in couple of weeks. Please suggest what all do I need to know, and could need to know to ensure smooth entry in the new role.

Have listed down a few myself:

  1. Java 8

  2. Software design patterns

  3. Webservices

  4. Frameworks like Netty and Akka

  5. Version control concepts.

  6. A web-framework like Play etc.

Can a Web Developer also be a Web Designer?

is it possible for a web developer to be a good designer as well ?
